Winchester Road Tragedy

On Monday the 12th March, Ben Ghafoor, 25, of Wyndham Drive, Romsey, was driving his Vauxhall Corsa down Winchester Road. At 11:30pm he collided with the tree opposite of the King Rufus pub.

Mr Ghafoor the driver of the Corsa sustained many injuries before sadly passing in a critical state later that night. In Southampton General Hospital. Police are still keen to find witnesses of the tragedy.

The family have put out a public statement about the incident: Ben, words cannot explain how much we will miss you. Most beloved father, son and brother. Forever in our hearts.

This is the place where the Corsa collided with the tree.

Many accidents have previously occurred on Winchester Road supposedly due to the lack of speed signs indicating the speed that people should go down the road.
Ben used to attend Toynbee school just minutes away from the King Rufus; this makes him more familiar with the road than others. Flowers have been placed at the area as a tribute to this sad loss of life. Our thoughts are with the family and friends.
