February’s Book Review

gone series 2

Recently, I have been reading the Gone series by Michael Grant, a teenage book author who has lived in 50 different homes! The series consists of 6 books in the following order:

  1. Gone
  2. Hunger
  3. Lies
  4. Plague
  5. Fear
  6. Light (The last one, and the one I’m currently reading)

About the Books

Each book is around 300 to 400 pages long and, for some squeamish readers, they do contain some forms of violence and swearing, so obviously, they are made for teenagers, around 13-15 years old. However, in my opinion, as long as you’re in secondary school, they aren’t too bad as the swearing is kept to a minimum (wish I could say the same for the violence though!).

A Summary of the Series

In a small town of the side of California, a giant 20 mile radius dome called the FAYZ (Fallout Alley Youth Zone) appears and everyone over the age of 15 disappears; the children and teenagers left behind are trapped. Chaos rules the streets of Perdido Beach, the main town where Sam Temple (aged 14) grew up. From here on, he takes charge until Caine (also aged 14) shows up from Coates Academy (A boarding school around 3 miles from Perdido Beach) and attacks the town…

My Opinion?

To be honest, the series was great! It was a good action and adventure book and it didn’t take me too long to read and get into it. The thought of having yourself confined into such a small space with just 330 other people that you might not even know at all and have to bond friendships, scavenge for food and water, avoid wild animals and then after all that, have to fight people who just want all the power for themselves. It’s that sort of story that you can just immerse yourself in and maybe spend a couple of hours reading it, think it’s amazing and read it for another couple of hours. I loved it, I couldn’t put the books down at times. I just wanted to see what happened!

My rating? 5 stars! Go out and start the series!
